Frequently asked questions

My approach is an integrated one, though each modality can be experienced as a stand-alone approach too.

My general theoretical model which informs everything else is the Person-Centred Approach. I also draw on training in Internal Family Systems, Integral Eye Movement Therapy, Shamanic Therapy and body-centred Somatic Therapy, which are all grounded in compassion, attunement and listening to our bodies, and how it gives us clues about what might be going on for us unconsciously.

All of these are supported by my knowledge and skills in Naturopathy, Nursing/medical background and Trauma training.

The Internal Family Systems paradigm. IFS, developed by Dick Schwartz over 30 years ago is an evidence-based therapy, well regarded in the USA and beginning to take off here in UK.

How will I know if this therapy is right for me?

Come along and see how you like our time together first in a free initial meeting and then try out 3 or 6 sessions and see how it feels for you. Maybe an initial exploratory session might be helpful where we can find out what feels most important as a starting point.

How long do therapy sessions last?

Sessions are flexible and can be an hour, 90 mins or 2 hours depending on a combination of which therapy and what frequency of contact works for you. I work both short and long term

What to expect from my first session?

Depending on what has been agreed/booked, our first session may involve an initial exploration of what you want to explore, addressing any questions you may have and creating an initial plan in going forward.

What will I need for an online session?

  • ·A comfortable, private space for your session

  • You’ll first want to set aside time for your session so that you can give it your full attention and get the most out of our time together.

  • If you live with other people, make sure they know you need privacy, and they won’t disturb you.

  • You will need a stable internet connection, a device with a webcam and microphone, and a private and quiet place to participate in the session.

  • Ensure your internet is up and running before your session to optimise your appointment without wasting time finding a better spot. You could also prepare by doing a quick internet speed check which is free if you type this into google.

  • Consider also background noise and how to minimise any distractions

  • Download whatever software platform you’ll be using and familiarise yourself with it, in our work Zoom.
